Undergraduates can declare a major at almost any time during their university career; in most cases this is done in the second semester of the sophomore year.
Students intending to declare a major in: Biological Sciences (BA BIO), Biochemistry (BS BBC), Cell and Developmental Biology (BS BCD), Ecology and Evolutionary Biology (BS BEB), Microbiology (BS BMB), Molecular Genetics (BS BMG), a Biology Minor (BI) , or a Biotechnology Certificate should meet with the Administrator for the Undergraduate Program in Biology and Medicine (UPBM), Marianne Arcoraci, to create an academic plan first. To set-up an appointment either send an e-mail or visit the UPBM office .
After the academic plan is generated students will need to meet with the advisor of their intended major to further discuss their schedule and obtain their signature of approval. Advsior names and contact information is posted on the UPBM major website. Once the paperwork is approved, please stop by the UPBM office so that a copy can be made for your files before it is submitted to the Center for Academic Advising (CCAS) in Lattimore 312.
Once a student has officially declared a major, it is recommended that he/she periodically visit with his/her advisor. This is particularly important if there are any changes from the curriculum proposed on the concentration form. Formal submission of another form is NOT required but the changes should be made in writing and made part of the student's record in the track office.
