My Reasons to Study in Kraków

By MURAN ZHU

I found this summer program at the Jagiellonian University intriguing because I have a genuine interest in immersing myself in a foreign country and learning first hand how democracy was established in Poland. As an international relations major, I am always looking for great opportunities to broaden my horizons and unravel international politics inside and outside the United States. Americans born around 1990 spent most of their lives in an atmosphere of peace and economic growth. Poland, on the other hand, is a country that has emerged from intense conflicts, including Nazi occupation during WWII and a long period of Communist rule. Poland now plays an important role as a member of NATO and the European Union. From a Chinese national's perspective, living and studying in Poland can help me understand better the relationship between political interests, interactions, and institutions.

Learning a new language in a relatively short period of time will be challenging but exciting. Given the fact that Jagiellonian University is one of the most prestigious universities in Europe and the summer program conducts intense Polish lessons, I will be honored to have the chance to spend my summer with students from all over the world and explore the history, magnificent architecture, and art in Central Europe. This program opens a door for me to explore Polish culture, film and music by providing me a valuable opportunity to learn Polish.

European art has always fascinated me, and Kraków is the host to amazing cultural attractions and galleries. This summer program of Polish studies will enable me to expand my knowledge of international political economy and to explore European art in depth. It will be amazing!
