Majors & Minors
The department offers bachelor of arts degrees in religion and in classics, and minors in religion, classics, and Arabic.
The major in religion exposes students to the history of the world’s great religions, and an array of courses exploring how these religions have impacted the ancient and modern world. The goal is for students to achieve an understanding not only of the nature of diverse religions, but the methods employed in their study, and a measure of competence with a specific tradition or area.
The major in classics is language-centered. Course work in Greek, Latin, Arabic and Hebrew language comprehension prepares students to read and analyze authentic texts; this is supplemented by studies in ancient literature, religion, philosophy, history, and art.
