Summer and Fall 2022 Programs
The University continues to carefully monitor the COVID-19 pandemic globally and is continuing the gradual restart of global experiences.
Applications for Summer and Fall 2022 are now open. Only programs that have been tentatively approved will be accessible through the education abroad portal. Students applying for a Non-UR programs for summer 2022 must complete the additional travel questionnaire here for approval.
Locations in the list below are NOT open for the Fall 2022 semester due to current border entry and/or security restrictions.
- Hong Kong
- New Zealand
- South Africa
*Country is being monitored for current border restrictions and COVID-19 protocols. Applications will need additional review before approval.
The review and selection process to approve programs was thorough and based on several factors including but not limited to: host country border restrictions, host program’s on-site student support, healthcare availability, CDC COVID-19 risk levels, vaccination mandates, quarantine/travel requirements and, the financial risk to both students and the institution; should a program be canceled or students recalled home due to health and safety risks.
All programs will continue to be monitored throughout the application process and leading up to dates of departure. If a program has significant changes (e.g. host country closes border to U.S. flights or program is canceled by the host institution), CEA may need to cancel a previously approved program. If a program is canceled, you will be contacted immediately.
As you consider applying to a program, please keep in mind the following:
- Choose airlines and flights that have change fee waivers or travel insurance should your plans unexpectedly change.
- Research your destination of interest to better understand what day-to-day life may be like as pandemic restrictions continue in many countries.
- Non-Rochester programs must be reviewed for approval, it is recommended that you have at least 1 alternate choice from the approved programs.
- Discuss your program options with a CEA Advisor.
- Students applying for a Non-UR programs for summer 2022 must complete the additional travel questionnaire here for approval.
Students currently studying abroad need to be mindful of travel re-entry requirements for their return destination. In the cases of the return destination being the US, students should follow the CDC’s US entry and testing requirements.
All University students who will be studying abroad in a future term or semester are required to get the COVID-19 vaccination prior to departure; if eligible, it is highly recommended for students going abroad to also receive the COVID-19 booster prior to departure. Starting summer 2022, there will be no COVID-19 vaccine exemptions for University students studying abroad. All travelers must also remain aware of entry requirements for their host destination, as restrictions may continue to change. You can review the full vaccination requirement policy here.
While there are many factors to consider, we are thrilled to be able to once again accept applications for in-person international experiences! Thank you for your ongoing patience as CEA and the University have worked to ensure the safest and rewarding program opportunities for both your personal and academic goals.
