2020-21 UR Campus Nomination Timeline
Please be advised that before we nominate you or endorse your candidacy for a fellowship competition, we will perform a conduct and academic honesty check to confirm that you are in good disciplinary and academic standing. This applies to each person listed as a project participant.
PLEASE NOTE: For all projects being proposed in a location outside of the United States, students must familiarize themselves with and use the resources for student travelers available through the UR Office for Global Engagement. No project will be considered for nomination to a location deemed too risky according to the professional security standards to which the University adheres—including an applicant's home country. Projects proposed to countries or regions with a U.S. Department of State Level 3 (or higher) Travel Advisory will undergo additional scrutiny and will need to be approved by an internal UR travel review committee.Students in this situation should contact Alan Ryon, Manager for International Travel and Security in the Office for Global Engagement, to discuss their international project plans and measures necessary to mitigate safety and security concerns. For students whose projects are nominated by UR, changes in the safety and security situation of the proposed location may require alterations to the original project.
Countries under current U.S. Department of State Travel Advisory levels 3 "Reconsider travel" and levels 4 "Do not travel", or regions, provinces, and cities that contain the language "Reconsider travel" or "Do not travel" within the narrative of any 1-4 advisory. Locations under Centers for Disease Control Warnings (level 3) are also considered high-risk.UR may apply the designation "High-Risk" to locations that pose a specific health, safety, or security concern as indicated by other sources, such as our insurers or travel providers.
Fall semester: Individually or as a group, develop project plans, secure organizational affiliation(s), and request letter(s) of support; students should reach out to those who will supply letters of support well in advance of the January deadline.

November 9: Submit the Prospective Applicant Form and the Davis Planning Tool. Please choose a single group member who will act as a contact for the group; this member will act as a liaison between the group and the Fellowships Office. After submission, email the Fellowships Office at urfellowshipsasst@ur.rochester.edu to schedule a meeting to discuss your plans. See also contact information.
November 23, 4pm EST: Formal draft proposal and budget due (click here to submit). After submission, email the Fellowships Office at urfellowshipsasst@ur.rochester.edu to schedule a meeting to discuss proposal. Optional but recommended: e-mail Kit Miller at the M.K. Gandhi Institute for Nonviolence (kit@gandhiinstitute.org) to set up a meeting or phone conversation to discuss your proposal. Please attach a copy of your proposal to this email.
January 11, 4pm EST: Application components due (click here to submit). A complete application includes all of the components listed below.
- 2-page proposal
- 1-page budget (must use Davis budget template; see Davis website)
- 1 letter of support/affiliation* from each collaborating organization/partner confirming partnership
- 1 letter of reference* for each applicant/group member (preferably from UR faculty or professional staff person, although external letters are acceptable)
- 1 up-to-date résumé for each applicant/group member
Late January: Davis campus interviews and selection of nominees.

Nominees should schedule an appointment with the Fellowships Office to discuss committee feedback and final revision of application materials.
February 5: Final revised proposal and budget due (click here to submit).
