Survivor to Thriver: Confronting Sexual Assault on Campus

Two Day Conference
April 2-3, 2013
University of Rochester River Campus

Gender violence, sexual assault, sexual harassment, and human trafficking are global issues.  The University of Rochester strives to ensure that our campus environment is free from all behaviors that threaten the safety and security of our students, faculty and staff. This two day conference will focus on the impact of gender violence on individuals and campus communities.

Conference Schedule

Tuesday, April 2:

7:00-8:30 pm                      Film: Not My Life, Hoyt Auditorium, University of Rochester River Campus

"Not My Life" depicts the scourge of human trafficking on a global scale. Narrated by Glenn Close, the film takes viewers into a world where millions of children are exploited through practices including forced labor, sex tourism, and child soldiering. A brief discussion will follow the film hosted by Catherine Cerulli, Diane Morse and Kathleen Cannon.

Wednesday, April 3:

8:30-9:15 am                     Registration and Breakfast, Interfaith Chapel- River Level

9:15-10:15 am                   Keynote Speaker, Maggie Maloy, former Division III student athlete, will begin the day by sharing her personal story about her recovery after an assault, Interfaith Chapel- River Level

10:25-11:30 am                 Panel Discussion – The panel will be centered on local resources and options available for survivors of gender violence, Interfaith Chapel- Sanctuary

12:00-1:30 pm                    Lunch – Poster Session and "Circle of Caring" - Attendees will have the opportunity to view posters featuring ongoing efforts to prevent and respond to gender violence. Community and campus organizations will share information about their services in the "Circle of Caring." The panelists from the morning will also be available for further conversation, Bridge Lounge and May Room, Wilson Commons

1:30-2:30                             Sexual Assault as a Feature of Manthink: Professor David Bleich, University of Rochester, Gowen Room, Wilson Commons

2:30-3:30                             The Spirituality of Recovery: The Rev. Dr. C. Denise Yarbrough, Director of Religious and Spiritual Life, Gowen Room, Wilson Commons
