American Association of Advertising Agencies: Through the MAIP (Multicultural Advertising Intern Program), the AAAA is seeking the most promising multicultural students nationwide, and giving them a chance to prove their ability in the "real world" with a ten-week paid internship at an advertising agency. Interns get a chance to work at real advertising agencies, take on real job responsibilities, and learn from real-world business situations and industry professionals. Internships may be located in Chicago, New York, Seattle, Rochester, Boston, and Los Angeles.; The internship program usually runs from early June to mid August. Students receive a weekly salary, and the AAAA covers approximately 60 percent of the cost of housing and one round-trip between the student's home or school and the city where the internship takes place.
American Economic Association: The American Economic Association offers scholarships for minority students to participate in the Summer Training Program at the University of Texas at Austin. The purpose is to increase the number of African American, Hispanic, and Native American students who finish doctorates in economics. We therefore seek applications from minority undergraduates with the potential and interest to pursue a Ph.D.

Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute Programs: Every year, the Fellowship Program offers up to 16 promising Latinos the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in public policy at the federal level. The Summer Internship Program provides 30 undergraduate students the opportunity to spend two months in D.C. to learn how government functions.
Coro Fellows Program - Coro Center for Civic Leadership: The Coro Fellows Program centers around an intensive engagement with the real world of public affairs, as well as the interaction of the Fellows class as a microcosm of community. Participants learn how to function both as members and leaders of high performing teams and demonstrate the ability to facilitate relations within groups to address conflicts, generate a sense of common purpose and focus work efforts.

Dow Jones Newspaper Fund Summer Internships: The Dow Jones Newspaper Fund offers annual summer internships in business reporting, newspaper copy editing and sports copy editing. With support from Yahoo! News, the Fund will offer 12 online editing internships. Each program provides free pre-internship training seminars on college campuses and weekly salaries starting at $350 for a minimum of 10 weeks. Interns who return to college full-time the following fall will receive $1,000 scholarships from the Fund.

Ford Foundation Fellowships for Minorities: In an effort to increase the presence of underrepresented minorities on the nation's college and university faculties, to enhance diversity on campuses, and to address the persisting effects of past discrimination, the Ford Foundation offers doctoral fellowships to members of six minority groups whose underrepresentation in the professorate has been severe and long-standing. The fellowship program identifies individuals of demonstrated ability and provides them with the opportunity to engage in graduate study leading to a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) or Doctor of Science (ScD) degree. These scholars ultimately inspire other students of color to pursue an academic career in teaching and research.

Gates Millennium Scholars Program: The Gates Millennium Scholars Program is aimed at increasing the number of African-American, Asian Pacific American, American Indian/Alaska Native, and Hispanic American students enrolling in and completing undergraduate and graduate degree programs.; Eligibility In order to be nominated for the Scholars program, students must meet the following guidelines:

have a cumulative GPA of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale
be accepted into or enrolled full-time in an accredited college or university
have demonstrated financial need
have demonstrated leadership commitment

GLAMOUR Magazine Competition: This competition recognizes the exceptional achievements and academic excellence of female college juniors from across the country. It's an ideal opportunity for talented students to be rewarded for their leadership roles on campus and in the greater community. Winners will receive $1,000, coverage in GLAMOUR's October issue, and the opportunity to meet with top professionals in their field, usually during a few-day stay in New York City, where all the winners have a chance to meet one another.; Eligibility: Female college juniors enrolled at an accredited college or university for that academic year. Entry Requirements are:

Completed application form.
An official college transcript.
A list, by year, of your activities on and off campus. Include names of activities and organizations and briefly describe your responsibilities and contributions.
A 500-700 word essay describing your most meaningful achievements; how they relate to your field of study and your future goals.
A black and white or color photograph, no larger than 8"X10" (for ID purposes only).
At least one letter of recommendation.

Entries may include slides, videotapes or samples of your work. Also enclose any relevant newspaper clippings or describe local recognition received in newspapers, on radio or television, etc. Label photo(s) and enclosures with your name and school.

The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) Internship Program: The HACU National Internship Program exposes talented college students to a challenging set of professional and educational experiences in many different fields. It is a comprehensive program that provides travel expenses and a weekly stipend. Housing arrangements are also made at a reasonable cost to the students.

Hispanic Scholarship Fund: The Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF) was founded in 1975 to help Hispanic-American college students complete their education. The scholarships are available on a competitive basis to community college, undergraduate four year college, and graduate students of Hispanic background.

Institute for Recruitment of Teachers (IRT): The Institute for Recruitment of Teachers at Phillips Academy in Andover, MA offers a summer workshop open to African-American, Native American, and Latino/a applicants who are college juniors and who are majoring in the humanities, education, and social sciences. Applicants must be seriously considering a teaching career at the high school or university level.; IRT interns receive a stipend of $1,200, travel expenses (if living beyond the New England area), plus room and board.

J. Madison Memorial Fellowship: Through a national competition, the Foundation offers James Madison Fellowships to a select group of individuals desiring to become outstanding teachers of the American Constitution.
McNair Post-Baccalaureate Achievement Program: The Ronald E. McNair Post-Baccalaureate Achievement Program is funded through the U.S. Department of Education, Higher Education Programs, and is designed to increase the number of low-income, first-generation and underrepresented minority college students who pursue and complete the doctoral degree. Its long-range mission is to help increase the diversity of college and university faculties.
Millender Fellowships: The Millender Fellowship was established in memory of Robert L. Millender, Sr., a leading black political figure in Detroit who died on November 14, 1978. The fellowship honors his political contributions and promotes his concerns about public service and minority representation in government. The annual fellowship program is designed to assist minority men and women in achieving distinguished accomplishment in public service-oriented careers. Fellows are assigned to high-level responsibilities with top executives in Detroit area organizations in public, private and non-profit areas. The goal of the program is to provide the encouragement, experience and relationships that are so necessary to develop an ever-growing pool of public service-oriented minority leaders.; Eligibility: To be eligible for consideration, an applicant must demonstrate a record of successful accomplishment in some graduate educational program and/or through equivalent experience, broadly related to a public service career (law, political science, business and/or public administration, etc.) which would demonstrate a capacity for high-level accomplishment. Applicants must have completed a master's degree or equivalent professional degree by the start of the fellowship.
Multicultural Advertising Intern Program (MAIP): Since 1973, the AAAA has conducted the MAIP program to encourage African-American, Asian-American, Hispanic-American, and Native-American college students to strongly consider advertising as a career. In recent years, the program has been expanding with more students and more agencies becoming involved.; Each year, approximately 75 to 100 qualified undergraduate and graduate students are selected from colleges and universities nationwide to spend 10 summer weeks interning at member agencies in various U.S. cities. Many MAIP participants have chosen to enter the advertising agency business or a related field after graduation from college.

National Endowment for the Humanities: NEH is an independent grant-making agency of the United States government dedicated to supporting research, education, preservation, and public programs in the humanities.
National Security Education Program
New England Board of Higher Education: NEBHE was created in 1955 by an interstate compact initiated by the governors of Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont, approved by the state legislatures and authorized by the U.S. Congress. The NEBHE sponsors several programs aimed at minority students. The mission and goals of NEBHE are:

Increase educational opportunities and services in New England;
Promote regional coordination and efficient use of educational resources among New England's six state governments and the region's more than 260 public and independent colleges and universities;
Analyze and publish regional information related to higher education and the economy;
Sponsor and conduct policy studies and forums on issues in higher education;
Explore and strengthen the connection between higher education and economic development in New England.

Newhouse Foundation Graduate Newspaper Fellowship and Apprenticeship for Minorities: Syracuse University's Newhouse School of Public Communications is now accepting applications for a generous master's level fellowship and internship program in newspaper journalism for members of under-represented groups.
New York State Regents Professional Opportunity Scholarship Program (POS): New York State Regents Professional Opportunity Scholarships are awarded to students who are enrolled in an approved program that leads to licensure in a profession designated by the New York State Commissioner of Education. Awards are renewable for up to four years of study, but recipients of POS awards must agree, in writing, to practice in New York State (in the profession for which the scholarship was granted) for one year for each year an award was paid.
New York State Senate Minority Summer Intern Program: The New York State Senate Minority Summer Intern Program provides an opportunity for selected students to work on research projects supervised by the Senate Minority Program, Counsel and Finance Staff.

Arthur C. Parker Scholarship and National Science Foundation Scholarship: The Society for American Archaeology (SAA) is pleased to announce the SAA Arthur C. Parker Scholarship and National Science Foundation (NSF) Scholarships for Archaeological Training for Native Americans and Native Hawaiians for the year 2000. Together, these scholarship programs will provide four awards of $3000 each to support training in archaeological methods, including fieldwork, analytical techniques, and curation. These scholarships are intended for current students--high school seniors, college undergraduates, and graduate students--and personnel of Tribal or other Native cultural preservation programs. Native Americans and Pacific Islanders from the U.S., including U.S. Trust Territories, and Indigenous peoples from Canada are eligible for these scholarships.
