The University of Rochester welcomes international students studying at other U.S. institutions as well as those from abroad to Rochester Summer Sessions. Study and live in an enriching and engaging environment at one of the nation’s leading private research institutions.
The University of Rochester requires international students have an appropriate visa to study at the University during the summer session. If you are already studying in the U.S. with an I-20 from another institution that you will be returning to following the summer, you will not be required to obtain an I-20 from the University of Rochester. Please visit our Visiting Students page to enroll in courses.
If you are not planning on returning to your current institution following the summer session then you will need to speak with your current institution and the University of Rochester’s International Services Office regarding the transfer of your I-20.
I-20 Sponsorship and F-1 Student Visas
Students must be sponsored for an I-20 (Certificate of Eligibility forNonimmigrant F-1 Student Status) to obtain an F-1 Visa. The University of Rochester will only sponsor the I-20 for students studying full time (12 credit hours or for ESL 16 credit hours) during the summer. Students who drop below the minimum required credit hours will be withdrawn and required to leave the country immediately. Students with an F-1 Visa can enter the U.S. up to 30 days prior to the date listed on their I-20. On campus housing is available from May19-August 9. Off-campus housing options are available as well.

Registration for International Students
If you are currently an international student studying at another U.S. institution, please visit our Visiting Students page to enroll in courses. For questions on eligibility requirements to study here at Rochester, please contact our International Services Office at email@example.com. Additional information can also be found on their website.
Online course registration opens on April 10, 2017 for non-matriculated students. While no formal application is required, some courses have pre-requisites. Course requirements can be found on our course offerings page.
The deadline for online course registration for Session A is May 15, 2017 at 5:00 PM. After that date registration must be completed by filling out a paper registration form, paying for your course at the Bursar’s Office and having them stamp your registration form. This form must be returned to Lattimore 120.
If you are registering for a Session B course, you may register online up until May 15, 2017. If registering after the 15th you will need to wait until online registration reopens from June 19th – 29th. After June 29th registration for Session B must be completed by filling out a paper registration form, paying for your course at the Bursar’s Office and having them stamp your registration form. This form must be returned to Lattimore 120.
Prior to registering for courses, you must first create a new student account by completing a Non-matriculated Student Application. The purpose of this application is to collect personal information in order to set up access for you to use the online registration system at the University.
After creating a new account, you will be able to proceed to register for courses and submit payment information. If you have previously taken a course at Rochester, proceed directly to the course registration page.
Step 1:Create New Student Account
- After completing the new student account creation process you will be notified within 24 to 48 hours via email to set up your NetID and Password.The NetID and password will allow you to register for your courses online.
- Completion of both the Non-matriculated Students Online Application and initialization of your NetID and Password are required prior to be being eligible to use the online registration system.
Step 2: Register for Summer Courses
Step 3: Submit payment for courses.
If payment is not received by May 15th for courses in Session A or June 29th for courses in Session B you will be deregistered and your housing reservation may be cancelled. You will be assessed a $150 fee to process a repeat registration for a course removed due to nonpayment.
**During the summer, add/drop forms may only be used for registration corrections, drops, or withdraws.
