Rochester Every Day - Graduate Assistant and Marketing Coordinator

Job Description

This graduate assistantship (GA) is offered through the Rochester Center for Community Leadership (RCCL), which is part of the office of the Dean of Students in the undergraduate College at the University of Rochester. The mission of the RCCL is to educate students to become engaged citizens and leaders capable of creating positive social change in their communities. The GA will report to the Assistant Director, and will be a vital member of the RCCL team, and of the entire office of the Dean of Students.

Rochester Every Day, the University of Rochester's student discount program, seeks a graduate student to coordinator to devise and implement a marketing strategy and manage community partnerships. Kicked off in 2003, more than 100 businesses provide UR students a discount and in turn receive free campus advertising and access to the student body.

Essential Duties, Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Publicity and Marketing
    • Develop and implement a publicity and marketing strategy, including use of social networking media, posters, and CT ads to increase awareness of the RED program and participating businesses
    • Proactively outreach to businesses not currently in the RED program to invite them to join.
    • Plan and execute spring RED vendor fair
    • Plan and facilitate off-campus student outings to RED businesses (eg. Lunch, dinner, coffee hour, etc.)
    • Arrange for businesses to table in Wilson Commons as desired
    • Plan and execute RCCL open houses sponsored by RED businesses
  • Community Partnership Management
    • Visit existing RED businesses to ensure continued participation
    • Devise a strategy to maintain contact with businesses throughout the year (letters, newsletters, etc)
    • Serve as the point of contact for RED related questions and requests

Required Qualifications

  • Strong communication skills: both written and verbal
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and publishing software
  • Ability to understand and interpret instructions to accurately complete work independently and meet deadlines
  • Ability to exercise initiative in pursuing goals of the program
  • Conduct oneself in a professional manner
  • Excellent interpersonal skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Rochester neighborhoods of Rochester and local establishments
  • Curiosity to venture into the city of Rochester and to explore local businesses
  • A willingness to follow events in the Rochester area
  • A creative outlook
  • A background or interest in marketing
  • Familiarity with blogging platforms is preferred
  • Personal vehicle or ability to drive the CSN van


$12 per an hour


Flexible with an expectation of approximately 10-12hrs/week
