Harold* and Jean Brodell*

Harold ’54M (MD), and Jean Brodell expressed their appreciation and loyalty to the School of Medicine and Dentistry in numerous ways for more than 60 years. For reunions and special occasions, they leveraged a larger financial impact by generously funding University of Rochester charitable gift annuities.

“Jean and I have been very pleased with our decision to fund University of Rochester gift annuities. We receive a fixed income with a payout rate that is higher than the dividends we were receiving from the stock we donated. A portion of the capital gains tax was avoided, which we would have owed if we had sold the stock ourselves. It could not have been easier to accomplish. Without a second thought, our payments come quarterly.

With vigor, we have supported our Class’s scholarship fund and other worthwhile endeavors because we believe the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry is one of this country’s best representatives of a fine academic tradition.”

Harold and Jean were parents of James D. Brodell ’83M (Res); Robert T. Brodell ’79M (MD),’81M (Res) [spouse, Linda Prichard Brodell ’81M (MD)]; and grandparents of Lindsey A. Brodell Dolohanty ’10M (MD), ’11M (Res); David W. Brodell ’16M (MD); ’20M (Res); and James Brodell, Jr. ’20M (MD).
