Guidance for University-sponsored travel in Middle East

The University and its Office for Global Engagement are monitoring the ongoing conflict in the Middle East and evaluating the potential safety concerns for our travelers around the world. With University travelers’ safety and security in mind, please see below for updates to University-sponsored travel requirements and guidelines.

Travel to Israel, the West Bank, and Gaza

  • Students (both undergraduate and graduate): Travel to Israel, the West Bank, and Gaza is suspended until further notice. Travel proposals for Spring 2024 and beyond will be reassessed at a later date.
  • Faculty, staff, and other University-related travelers: Travel to Israel, the West Bank, and Gaza is strongly discouraged at this time.

Middle East/North Africa (MENA) Region

  • Students: All student travel requests continue to require approval through the Office for Global Engagement and Center for Education Abroad. Proposed travel to this region may be assessed as high-risk based on advisories or additional assessment by Global Engagement, and may be subject to additional review processes. Please reach out to either Education Abroad at abroad@rochester.edu or Global Engagement at travelsecurity@rochester.edu for more information.
  • Faculty/Staff: Travel is not restricted, although prospective travelers should review advisories and consult Global Engagement if considering travel to this region. All faculty and staff should register their travel prior to departure.

All Other International Travel

  • Students: All student travel requests continue to require approval through the Office for Global Engagement and Center for Education Abroad. Please reach out to either Education Abroad at abroad@rochester.edu or Global Engagement at travelsecurity@rochester.edu for more information.
  • Faculty/Staff: All faculty and staff should register their travel prior to departure.
