President Mangelsdorf signed the Presidents’ Alliance petition to grant TPS and special relief to Ukrainian students

In response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine and subsequent armed conflict and extraordinary conditions, the Presidents’ Alliance on Higher Education and Immigration, a coalition of over 500 college and university presidents, calls on Secretaries Mayorkas and Blinken to issue a Temporary Protected Status (TPS) designation and announce Special Student Relief (SSR) for Ukrainian nationals residing or studying in the United States. View petition.

Temporary Protected Status

The Department of Homeland Security announced an 18- month Temporary Protected Status or TPS for all Ukrainian citizens who have been continuously residing in the US since  March 1, 2022. TPS designation protects eligible individuals from deportation and provides work authorization.

Please visit the USCIS website for the latest information on the effective date, eligibility, and the application process.

Students on F-1 visas are eligible to apply for TPS and can seek free assistance from JustCause, a nonprofit legal service in the Rochester area. Students should contact ISO for questions on maintaining F-1 status, F-1 visa-related concerns, and legal resources.
