The Student Diversity Dashboard includes all students who are reported to IPEDS (Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System) as part of the fall census.
 
Data are drawn from census date 'snapshots' of the University of Rochester's student information system.  Fall snapshots occur annually on or around the end of September.  This data assures that the data aligns with federal reporting guidelines.
 
The Student Diversity Dashboard allows the viewer to see the distinct counts of students by a school with total students by year, distinct counts of students by gender with the percent of the total by gender by year, and distinct counts of students by ethnicity by year with the percent of the total by ethnicity by year. There is also a viz in viz feature that shows the distinct counts of students by ethnicity and year with the YOY % change.
 
A viewer of the Student Diversity Dashboard can filter the dashboard by school or division.
 
Schools represented in this dashboard are Arts & Sciences, Eastman Institute of Oral Health, Eastman School of Music, Hajim School of Engineering, School of Medicine & Dentistry, School of Nursing, Simon Business School, and Warner School of Education.
 
Genders represented by this dashboard are Female, Male, and Undisclosed.
 
Race ethnicities represented in the dashboard are Asian, 2+Races, URM, White, Nonresident Alien, and Unknown. 2+Races represents individuals who are not of Hispanic origin and who indicate having origins in two or more races. URM is an acronym for Underrepresented Minorities: American Indian/Alaskan Native, Black/African American, Hispanic, Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander. UR does not report the race and ethnicity of International students. They are reported as non-residents (previously non-resident aliens).
 
The Student Diversity Dashboard uses the SNAP Student Program Enrollment data source located on the Production Tableau Server, Student Site > Explore > Registration and Enrollment > SNAP Student Program Enrollment.
 
Additional Details
The University recognizes that there are many critical dimensions of diversity, and these dashboards only depict gender and race/ethnicity. Other dimensions of diversity data are not currently captured in our HRMS system and are not required to be reported to the federal government. The definitions of gender and race/ethnicity in the charts above are determined by the federal reporting agencies. We hope to expand these dashboards in the future with other data that explores other self-reported aspects of identity. Dashboard Designer/Developer: Camille Knight
