ResNet - Device Registration

Users are permitted to register two (2) devices (router, game system, tiVo, or an additional computer) to their NetID. Each device is identified by a physical (MAC) address which is unique to that device. ResNet allows routers in residence halls. If the router has wireless capabilities, the wireless radio on the router MUST BE TURNED OFF. These devices can cause networking issues for other residents, and are a violation of the user agreement that you digitally sign when registering.

If you are a new user and have not registered your computer

  1. Connect your Ethernet cable to both the port on the wall and to your computer. You will need a working NetID.
  2. Once your computer shows a connection, open your web browser and navigate to any page. This will automatically redirect you to our registration page.
  3. Authenticate in with your NetID then proceed to complete the registration steps. Make sure you have a working antivirus client that receives updates. If you do not already have one, please install Sophos - the University of Rochester antivirus package freely available to the University community.

If you receive a registration error

  1. Disable wireless on your machine; you will only be able to register through a LAN connection.
  2. If the issue persists, contact the IT Center Student Help Desk during their hours of operation.

If you have already registered your computer, but are still being redirected to the registration page

  1. Make sure that you empty the cache.
  2. After waiting for 10 minutes, reboot your machine.
  3. If the issue persists, contact the IT Center Student Help Desk during their hours of operation.
