University of Rochester's Gunta Liders Wins National Honor
The National Council of University Research Administrators (NCURA) will present Gunta Liders, associate vice president for research administration, with its Award for Outstanding Achievement in Research Administration, the organization's highest honor.
"I have known Gunta for many years," said Patricia Hawk, NCURA President. "Not only is she an expert in the field of research administration, she is a tireless volunteer for this organization. Giving this award to Gunta will go down on my "list of best things" in my service as NCURA's President."
During her 26 years as a member of NCURA, Liders has held several leadership positions—including secretary of the board of directors and regional treasurer—presented at national and regional conferences, served on the organization's traveling faculty, and received two Distinguished Service Awards from both the national and regional chapters. Liders is also a contributing editor for the monthly Managing Federal Grants newsletter and chapter author for Managing Federal Grants: A Guide to Colleges and Universities, as well as for Sponsored Research Administration: A Guide to Effective Strategies and Recommended Practices. Liders has also served as chair of the Research Compliance and Administration Committee, board member of the Council of Governmental Relations, and member of the Executive Committee of the Federal Demonstration Partnership.
"While research administrators need to become experts in rules and regulations, we ultimately help our faculty to succeed in their research," said Liders. "To be a small part of their success is very rewarding."
Liders will be presented with the Award for Outstanding Achievement this Monday morning at NCURA's 55th annual meeting, being held in Washington, DC.
Liders holds a bachelor's degree in art history from the University of Rochester and a master's degree in art history/arts administration from George Washington University. In her position at the University of Rochester, Liders is responsible for numerous compliance issues associated with research administration, as well as for administering grants and contracts for research.
NCURA was established in 1959 to advance the field of research administration.
