WHO: Students participating in the City of Rochester and Monroe County's Summer of Opportunity job placement program will spend the afternoon at the University of Rochester learning about the benefits of a college education.

TIME, DATE, PLACE: 12:30 p.m. on Friday, July 16, at Strong Auditorium on the University's River Campus.

WHAT: More than 800 students from the Rochester City School District will come to the University of Rochester to learn about life as an undergraduate. Jon Burdick, dean of admissions and financial aid, will be joined by a panel of current undergraduates from the David T. Kearns Center to talk about preparing for college and describing the support and resources available to students on a campus. Additionally, students will hear from Richard Feldman, Dean of the College, University President Joel Seligman, and Mayor Robert Duffy.

ABOUT THE SUMMER OF OPPORTUNITY: A joint effort between the City of Rochester and Monroe County, the Summer of Opportunity Program is an employment program for students ages 14 to 21 and who are still in high school. Students who participate in the program are placed in jobs through area employers for 6 to 8 weeks during the summer.
