WHAT: University of Rochester students, faculty, and staff will gather together to celebrate Day of the Arts 2014: Street Art. This two-day series will showcase movement, dance, and art executed outside of traditional art venues. The day is sponsored by UCIS Arts at UR Cluster, the Department of Art and Art History, the Program of Dance and Movement, the International Theatre Program, and Medical Humanities.
TIME, DATE, PLACE: Friday, April 11 through Saturday, April 12, University of Rochester River Campus. All events are free and open to the public.

Friday, April 11
Thievin’ Stephen: Mural Production
All day, Rettner Hall
Thievin’ Stephen, a local artist, uses stencils and spray paint to create “intricate and layered visions of society.”
Screening: Street Medicine
4 to 6 p.m., Rettner Hall
Street Medicine is a 2008 documentary about a street clinic that provides medical care and social services to homeless and uninsured populations.
Panel Discussion: Street Art
6 to 7 p.m., Rettner Hall
The panel, which includes Thievin’ Stephen and Ian Wilson, will be moderated by visual and cultural studies graduate student Alicia Chester.
Mural Opening: Concert, Performance, and Reception
7 to 8 p.m., Rettner Hall
Performers will include UR Styles (Breaking Crew), the Vertex Saxophone Quartet with Mark Kraszewski, and Minsoo Kim (choreography student).
Saturday, April 12
National Water Dances
4 p.m., banks of the Genesee River
Student choreographers and performers gather on the banks of the Genesee River, between the footpath and the Interfaith Chapel, to share dance, art, and music that focuses on issues surrounding water. The event occurs simultaneously with other National Water Dances across the country. Students from the University’s Program of Dance and Movement and the Studio Art Department will present original work, with a featured dance accompanied by the Rush Rhees Carillon.
