The FY 2016 House Energy and Water Development Appropriations bill approved by the House Appropriations Committee this week includes $68 million for the Laboratory for Laser Energetics, the same level as FY15, but $7.5 million above President Barack Obama’s request. The bill is expected to go to the floor as early as next week.

The bill also includes $5.1 billion for the Office of Science, a $29 million (0.6 percent) increase over last year’s spending levels, and level or slightly increased funding for research in basic energy science, fusion, high energy physics, nuclear energy, and Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPAA-E).
