Learning During Times of Disruption

Planning and Preparing for Disruption

There are a number of strategies that instructors can use to plan for potential classroom disruption.

  • Start by reviewing University guidance on how to Prepare to Learn, Work or Teach Remotely
  • Review any communications from your instructors about changes or updates to your course
  • Recognize the need to be flexible and patient with your instructor during times of disruption
  • If possible, test your system for compatibility with the technologies being used prior to your first class session. For example, test your system for access to Zoom
  • Find a quiet space that is free of distraction for any live online class sessions
  • Use the course code in the subject of your message to instructors (Blackboard Email will do this automatically)
  • Check to see if there is a discussion forum in your class for communication and subscribe to it
  • Practice with the tools before you need to use them
