CLASS OF 2000 SETS FUND-RAISING RECORD

The members of the Class of 2000 left the University with a new record when it comes to giving back to their alma mater.

For the first time, more than 30 percent of a graduating class made a pledge to the senior class fund. The record level of participation triggered a matching gift from the Trustees' Council of the College.

Just over 31 percent of the class committed to the fund, raising more than $6,000, said Beth Luke, program manager for the annual fund and advisor to the Senior Class Council. Between 22 percent and 25 percent of graduating classes typically pledge gifts.

"The Senior Class Council deserves all the credit for coordinating the effort," Luke said. "They were out there beginning in January, talking to their classmates, raising awareness, and working on building support for their goal."

The Trustees' Council has challenged recent classes to increase the number of students who participate in the senior class fund, promising to match the amount raised if more than 30 percent of the class participates.

This year's challenge was based only on the level of participation, not on the dollar amount raised, Luke said.

This is the first time the challenge has been met.
