Wherever You Go, There UR!
University of Rochester Alumni Association Tours are designed to provide worry-free basics--transportation, transfers, accommodations, some meals, baggage handling, and professional guides--and still allow you time to pursue your individual interests. Escorts drawn from University faculty and staff accompany most tours to provide special services and educational enrichment.

Alumni Association tours are open to all members of the University community and their immediate families. Other relatives and friends are welcome as space permits (these unaffiliated travelers are requested to make a $100 gift to the University).

Exploring Copper Canyon & the Sea of Cortez
November 11-22, 2000

Depart Chihuahua, Mexico, aboard the South Orient Express and travel through the Sierra Madre Mountains to historic towns that reflect the colonial and Indian heritage of northern Mexico. Stay in first-class hotels along the way. Then, board the Yorktown Clipper at La Paz, Baja California. Cruise the Sea of Cortez and its uninhabited islands, home to many plants and animals found nowhere else on earth. Experienced naturalists will help you spot unusual species. Swim, snorkel, collect shells, and birdwatch as you discover "Mexico's Galapagos." A cruise-only option is also offered.

Yachtsman's Caribbean
December 30, 2000-January 6, 2001

The Nantucket Clipper follows a course to small out-of-the-way islands such as Saba, Statia, St. Barts, and Anguilla to find the real Caribbean--unspoiled and uncluttered. A marine biologist on board will help you understand the ecosystems you'll visit. Hiking, snorkeling, swimming, and visits to colonial forts provide plenty of opportunities for refreshing departures from conventional Caribbean cruises.

Exploring Colonial Brazil
March 8-20, 2001

Starting in Rio de Janeiro, travel along the Atlantic coast of Brazil to visit seaside resorts, colonial architecture, and beautiful beaches. Ports of call include Búzios, a favorite South American vacation destination; Salvador, with wonderful 17th- and 18th-century churches; and Olinda, a World Heritage City. Onboard naturalists will accompany you to the Fernando de Noronha archipelago and the Atol de Rocas marine sanctuary. You'll also enjoy the camaraderie aboard the 122-passenger Clipper Adventurer.

Eastern & Oriental Express
March 16-31, 2001

Visit Bangkok and Chiang Mai, Thailand, Singapore, and Hong Kong. Stay at four of the world's top-rated hotels. Travel through Malaysia aboard the Eastern & Oriental Express in a style that has all but vanished from the modern world. The train trip allows for an excursion to Penang, Malaysia, a delightful city of unique attractions and friendly residents.

Villa Life in the Italian Countryside
April 18-26, 2001

Spend seven nights in the beautiful medieval village of Fiuggi, famous for the healing properties of its thermal baths since the 14th century. Excursions include a visit to Hadrian's Villa (built in 126 A.D.), Montecassino Abbey, the first major monastery in Europe, and the many ancient towns of the Ciociaria region. A visit to Rome includes St. Peter's Basilica, the Sistine Chapel, the Coliseum, and the Vatican museums.

Historic Normandy and the Seine River
May 1-12, 2001

Travel through the heart of Normandy and the storied Seine River on an itinerary combining tremendous scenic beauty with great historical significance. Begin your trip with three days in Deauville, which will be your starting point for visits to Bayeux to view the famous Queen Matilda's Tapestry, and to Omaha Beach and the St. Laurent Cemetery. Then, the M.S. Normandie becomes your home for the remainder of the trip, offering views of the scenic beauty and historic landmarks along the Seine, including stops at Caudebec and Rouen. Finish your trip with two nights in the heart of Paris.

Islands & Wildlife of the Pacific Northwest
September 16-22, 2001

Sail from Seattle to the San Juan Islands in search of sea lions and whales, stopping at the whale museum in Friday Harbor. Then visit Victoria, British Columbia, and some of British Columbia's 250 islands. Local experts will help direct the ship to the best wildlife viewing areas. Johnstone Strait, Alert Bay, and the Princess Louisa Inlet offer many more opportunities to see orcas, bald eagles, and seals. The trip concludes in Vancouver, British Columbia's largest city.

Village Life on the French Riviera
September 28-October 6, 2001

Centered in the charming village of Vence, in the foothills above the Cote d'Azur, this program features visits to the region's most glamorous destinations--Monaco, Cannes, Saint-Tropez, and Nice. You'll also visit the mountainous region to the north of the Riviera, and tour San Remo, Italy, just over the border, famous as the principal flower market of Italy. The Musée Picasso in Antibes, and the Musée Matisse in Nice provide two of the many opportunities to focus on the art of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Alumni College on the Rhine
October 16-24, 2001

The Rhine River flows 820 miles through four countries from Switzerland to the North Sea. It provides an in-depth learning experience in the heart of Europe, starting in Frankfurt, Germany. Excursions include Bonn and Beethoven's home, where you will enjoy a special concert; the Gutenberg Museum; and the historic city of Worms. Enjoy wine tastings in Speyer, Germany, and in Alsace.
