Goergen Awards

The third annual Goergen Awards for Distinguished Achievement and Artistry in Undergraduate Teaching were presented to several faculty and University programs during the 1999 Convocation.

Faculty awards went to: Daniel Albright, professor of English and the Richard L. Turner Professor of the Humanities. He has taught at Rochester since 1987.

Naomi Jochnowitz, associate professor of mathematics. She has taught at Rochester since 1982.

Jack Kampmeier, professor of chemistry. He has taught at the University since 1960.

Ian Walmsley, professor of optics. He has taught at Rochester since 1988.

The Department of Brain and Cognitive Sciences received the Award for Curricular Achievement in Undergraduate Education for its brain and cognitive sciences major and the neuroscience major.

Dale McAdam, dean for freshmen, and the Office of Minority Student Affairs were co-recipients of the Award for Distinguished Contributions to Undergraduate Learning. McAdam was cited for his leadership, achievements, and contributions to academic and cocurricular life. The minority student affairs office was recognized for its leadership in programs that benefit the entire University community.

The Goergen Awards are named for and sponsored by Robert Goergen '60, chairman of the Board of Trustees, and his wife, Pamela.
