FRIEDLANDER '56 NAMED NATIONAL CHAIR OF REUNION 2001

A member of the University's Board of Trustees with a long history of support for Rochester has been named the national chairman of Reunion 2001.

Roger Friedlander '56, who will celebrate his 45th Reunion in October, serves as the chief alumni volunteer for this year's Reunion October 12-14. He oversees planning for programs, events, and other aspects of Reunion 2001.

"Roger Friedlander is the ideal choice for us," said Dean of the College Faculty Thomas LeBlanc. "His 40-plus years of service as a volunteer, supporter, and most recently as a trustee make him an invaluable leader and advisor for Reunion 2001."

Friedlander founded Spectrum Office Products in 1970 with Henry Epstein '80S (MBA), growing it into one of the largest office-supply businesses in the Northeast. They sold the company to Staples, Inc. in 1994.

A longtime supporter of the University, Friedlander provided funds to renovate the main lobby of Rush Rhees Library, which has been renamed in his honor.

He also is the benefactor of Magnolia Garden, a stand of magnolia trees planted in June 1999 between the library and Meliora Hall.
