John Lipman was listed as one of the top diagnostic radiologists in and around Atlanta in the August 2001 issue of Atlanta magazine. . . . Warren Wolfeld sends an update. In March 2001, he left the San Francisco patent law firm of Fliesler, Dubb, Meyer & Lovejoy, L.L.P., where he was a senior partner, and joined a Half Moon Bay patent law firm now renamed Haynes Beffel & Wolfeld, L.L.P. He continues to counsel high-technology Silicon Valley electronics and software companies on patent-related aspects of their businesses. He lives on the San Francisco peninsula with his wife, Joanne, daughter, Shauna-Li, and dogs, Cora and Abernathy.

Jane Hollen, chief information officer of Xerox, North America, gave the keynote address to Alfred State College class of 2001 in May. . . . Brian Roseboro writes that he is deputy director of market risk management for American International Group and has been nominated by President Bush to be assistant secretary of financial markets for the U.S. Department of the Treasury. . . . Jude Sauer '85M (MD) is president and CEO of LSI Solutions, Inc., a medical device research and marketing company that provides products that minimize the need for invasive therapeutic procedures. . . . John Taylor writes that he is "enjoying life in Connecticut with my wife, Linda, and four children." John was appointed chief financial officer of MassMutual Benefits Management, Inc. after working as an actuary in pensions, life, and health insurance since 1985. "Hope this finds all my old friends and acquaintences happy and healthy," he writes.

Scott Gingold has invented and patented a system that uses plastic rivets to quickly close up the skull after operations, reducing the time to replace a piece of skull from about 30 minutes to about three minutes. He is a Syracuse, N.Y.-area neurosurgeon. . . . David Johnston has been conducting operations and systems consulting, workshops, training, and implementation in Europe, Asia, and America. He is on the board of directors of PM (Product Management) for Kids as well as an Internet applications corporation. He was featured in an interview in Business Strategies Magazine. . . . Randy Kornfield Marber writes that she was nominated to run for Nassau County district court judge in the fourth district, which includes the town of Oyster Bay and city of Glen Cove. She received the highest possible rating of "Well Qualified" from the judiciary screening committee of the Nassau County Bar Association. She serves as the principal law clerk to New York Supreme Court Justice Allan L. Winick. She writes, "The support of Rochester alumni is welcomed. Please visit www.Marber4Judge. org." . . . Navy Cmdr. Craig Powell participated in an extensive Navy and Marine Corps exercise called Kernel Blitz. Powell served on the USNS Mercy, one of two hospital ships in the fleet. "Combat begets casualties, and our mission is rapid deployability and delivery of optimal health care," he says. . . . Darren Shapiro has been named vice president of sales at Sinclair Broadcast Group, Inc.

Frank Bernieri co-edited the book Interpersonal Sensitivity, published by Lawrence Erlbaum Associates. The book analyzes comprehensive treatment to help achieve social competency. . . . Michael Oates has been appointed vice president of eReinsure, a provider of e-commerce technology for negotiating reinsurance. . . . Robert Swartout '92S (MBA) was appointed a partner of Cobblestone Capital Advisors of Allens Creek Road in Rochester.

Barbara Fuegel Demczar '88 (MS) writes, "After nine years as a stay-home mom and a student (again), I have started a new career as an elementary school teacher. I started in September with a first grade class and am loving it!" . . . Steven Hanks '89M (MD), '92M (Res) sends a note that in August, he completed a master's degree in medical management at the Heinz School of Public Policy and Management at Carnegie Mellon University. In June, he started a new position as vice president for medical affairs and chief medical officer at Finger Lakes Health, an integrated delivery system. He also was elected assistant secretary of the Medical Society of the State of New York. He and his wife, Lisa, live in Albion, N.Y., with their four children. . . . Elliot Gruskin has been appointed vice president of research and development at Acorda Therapeutics. He will be responsible for directing the company's research laboratories and managing their research collaborations. . . . Lisa King Harris is practicing medicine at the Downtown Health Care Center, a facility that serves urban patients who have limited or no health insurance. . . . Brookellen Bruley Rider writes that her son, Jake Michael, was born March 30, 2001. "Mother and son are doing wonderfully," she says.
'85 Lawrence Gianola e-mails that he is currently living and working in the Portland, Ore., area. . . . Jeremy Grodberg writes that after working as a high-tech entrepreneur, he's going to film school in Southern California to direct independent features. . . . Ruby Kocher Singh writes that her daughter, Madison, was born on December 14, 2000, joining her sisters, Alexa, 8, and Katelyn, 5. "Needless to say, life is very busy!" . . . Laurence Sternbane is station manager for America West Airlines at Palm Springs, Calif., and Anchorage, Alaska.

She was also chosen to narrate the documentary film I Am Joseph Your Brother, which was scheduled to be shown on ABC last October. . . . Ranit Schmelzer is the communications director and chief spokesperson for Senator Thomas Daschle (D-SD), the Senate majority leader. She joined Daschle's office in 1993.

Stuart Barich sends an update. He and his wife, Pattie, had their third child, Spencer, in spring of 2001. He writes, "Mom and two older siblings, Courtney and Eli, are doing great. Professionally, I was promoted recently to head of corporate finance at Leerink Swan. I spend half of my week in Boston and New York." . . . Robin May Macfarlane married Jerry Tempelman on July 28, 2001. Robin is a senior forensic psychologist for the New York Police Department in Rego Park, Queens, and Jerry is a trading supervisor for a bond trading company. . . . Daniel Schachtel writes that he is president of PHT, Inc. . . . Ann Sutphen married David Rhoades on May 12, 2001, in Sag Harbor, N.Y. Ann is an operations manager for the West Marine Products Corp., a chain of retail stores, and David is a project engineer for RoseWater Engineering.. . . Sidney Wigfall, who is affiliated with the business advisory and consulting firm Braintrust Consulting Group, was a volunteer instructor for an eight-week training course for new high-tech entrepreneurs in Mount Laurel, N.J.

William Grazier III joined SunnComm, Inc. as vice president of operations. Previously, he served as chief information officer for medical device company Longport, Inc.. . . John and Kristina King O'Connor '89 write that their first child, Nora Jayne, was born on May 31, 2001, and weighed 8 lbs., 11 oz. John is an attorney with Steptoe & Johnson, L.L.P. in Washington, D.C., and Kristina is a psychotherapist with the Leary School of Virginia. They live in Alexandria, Va. . . . Janna Olevnik sends an update: "I'm currently living, no thriving, in Boulder, Colo. In addition to a child and family psychotherapy practice, I'm working for Boulder County Mental Health as a child development clinician/consultant for a grant-funded early intervention program. I'm also thrilled to say that I'm recently engaged."
. . . Ann Howard Phillips writes, "I am enjoying life as a retired archivist. I'm staying at home with my two sons, Cameron, who is 2, and Ben, who was born July 9, 2001." . . . N. Elizabeth Valentine Quattrociocchi writes to announce the birth of her daughter, Olivia Cate, born August 17, 2001. She weighed 8 lbs., 8 oz. and measured 21 1/2 inches. . . . Randy Raetz sends an update. "I am now a dad! I adopted my son, Spencer Gordon Raetz, this June from Guatemala and look forward to introducing him to the University and hopefully making him a fellow alum! Ronald Battaglia, Jr. writes that his son, Henry, was born July 2, 2001, and joins his 2 1/2-year-old brother, Sam. "After a couple of years in Vermont, during which time we added two Rhodesian Ridgebacks and my son, Sam, to the family, my wife and I moved back to the Boston area where I have been practicing as a corporate associate in the Boston office of the law firm Robinson & Cole, L.L.P." Jennifer Traylor Kruschwitz '95 (MS) and Brian Kruschwitz '98 (PhD) write that their second child, Helen Katherine, was born on June 4, 2001. She was 6 lbs., 4 oz. and 19 1/2 inches long. "Her older brother, Adam Joseph, 4, loves his new little sister," Jennifer writes. . . . Robert Lewis was promoted to senior vice president of investments at the Boston Harbor branch of Salomon Smith Barney, an investment firm.. . . Andrew Miller and his wife, Sherry, had their second child, Samantha, on July 1, 2001. She weighed 6 lbs., 2 oz. and was 18 1/2 inches long. The Millers also have a 3-year-old daughter, Rebecca. They live in Livingston, N.J., where Andrew works as a public relations manager for Howard Johnson International. . . . Michael Sanchez has joined Silberline Manufacturing Co., Inc., a global supplier of effected pigments, as a technical service representative for plastics. . . . David Townes writes that he joined the faculty of the University of Washington School of Medicine, where he is an assistant professor. "I am practicing emergency medicine and love living in Seattle." . . . Christina VanOstrand-Montpetit writes that her daughter, Megan, was born on February 15, 2001, weighing 9 lbs., 6 oz. . . . Mark Zaid filed a lawsuit against the federal government in June on behalf of a public interest group as a means of forcing the CIA to release classified documents regarding invisible ink and its use in security procedures during World War I. He also was on MSNBC with Brian Williams, CNBC with Geraldo Rivera, and CNN with Greta Van Sustern regarding his representation of Mohamed Al Fayed in Fayed's attempt to force the CIA to disclose what the agency knows of the death of Princess Diana and Fayed's son, Dodi.
