CLASS OF 2006 CHECKS IN

About 930 new freshmen are expected to enroll in the College when classes begin September 3.

Drawn from 8,700 applications, the incoming class has test scores and grade point averages similar to last year. A slightly higher proportion graduated in the top 10 percent of their high school class.

"The freshman class is similar to last year's with equally competitive academic credentials," says W. Jamie Hobba, director of admissions.

About half of the freshmen are from New York State and about a quarter are members of ethnic minority groups.

More than 175 freshmen in the College-the largest number ever-committed to enroll through the University's early decision program.
