Honors and Awards

At the College Convocation ceremony, Thomas DiPiero, professor of French and of visual and cultural studies, and Wayne Knox, director of the Institute of Optics, received the College’s Goergen Award for Distinguished Achievement and Artistry in Undergraduate Education, and Terry Gurnett, associate director of alumni relations and development and coach of the women’s soccer team, received the Goergen Award for Distinguished Contributions to Undergraduate Learning in the College. The 2004 Goergen Award for Curricular Achievement in Undergraduate Education recognized the Department of Computer Science and the physical chemistry curriculum within the Department of Chemistry.

Robert Griggs, professor and chair of neurology at the School of Medicine and Dentistry, has been reelected as a national vice president of the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Robert Haggerty, professor and chair emeritus of pediatrics, received the 2004 Alfred I. duPont Award for Excellence in Children’s Health Care.

Steve Lamberti, associate professor of psychiatry, has received the American Psychiatric Association’s 2004 Arnold L. van Ameringen award in Psychiatric Rehabilitation.

Clifford Smith Jr., the Louise and Henry Epstein Professor of Business Administration and professor of finance and economics at the Simon School, received the Robert I. Mehr Award from the American Risk and Insurance Association.

Harry Stern, assistant professor of chemistry, has won the 2005 Camille Dreyfus Teacher-Scholar Award, designed to strengthen the teaching and research careers of young faculty researchers.

Simon School faculty members Ross Watts, the William H. Meckling Professor of Business Administration and professor of accounting and finance, and Jerold Zimmerman, the Ronald L. Bittner Professor of Business Administration and professor of accounting, received the American Accounting Association’s award for Seminal Contributions to Accounting Literature, considered the premier award for accounting research.
