Rochester Takes UAA Title

With four men breaking 80, the golf team held off ninth-ranked Emory University to win the University Athletic Association golf championship this spring and earned a berth in the Division III national championships.

Rochester shot a 310 on the second day and finished with a two-day total of 622. Emory, which shot a 307 on day two, finished second with 625 strokes. NYU was third with a 628.

Yellowjacket coach Rich Johnson was named the UAA Coach of the Year, the second time he’s earned that recognition.

Stephen Goodridge ’08, who tied for medalist honors with a 153 (78 on day two), was named the UAA Rookie of the Year. He lost a three-hole playoff to Emory’s Mike Lebow for the individual championship.

Goodridge was joined on the All-UAA First Team by sophomore Robert Sherman ’07, who tied for third place individually with a 154 over two days.
