“I didn’t have anyone to talk to about college, and I never went to anybody’s campus to see what college was like. There wasn’t anybody who could tell me about student life—the nitty gritty aspects, which is different from what a counselor or admissions representative would tell you. . . . I wasn’t really prepared for it. It would have been helpful to have an older brother or sister, someone intimate, who could say, ‘Watch out for this or that.’”
