“I
started out as a health and society major, and I always have to
tell my mom to stop telling people I’m going to be a doctor.
She says, ‘Well, you’re going to Rochester and it’s
got a good medical school—why don’t you want to be a
doctor?’ So I had to explain to my mother that public health
is different. And she said, ‘Well, you’re going to be
a lawyer, then.’ If your parents didn’t go to college,
they have these ideal jobs in their heads: doctor, lawyer, teacher,
nurse. . . .” |
