Alice Holloway Young ’69W (EdD) was the recipient of a Legacy Award from the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity. Alice was the first African American teacher in the Rochester City School District.

Cary Nelson (PhD) was elected president of the American Association of University Professors. He will serve a two-year term. Cary is the Jubilee Professor of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Elinda Fishman Kiss (Mas), ’83 (PhD) was a finalist for the Alan J. Krowe Award for Teaching Excellence at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business.

Bruce Smith (PhD) is an English professor at the University of Southern California. Previously, he was an English professor at Georgetown University.

Ron Fecso (MA), chief statistician at the National Science Foundation, was elected to the American Statistical Association’s board of directors. . . . Steven Lazarus S (PhD) is a coauthor of Electronic Health Records: Transforming Your Medical Practice. It was one of two books that received the Healthcare Information Management Systems Society’s 2005 Book of the Year Award.

Larry Brown S (PhD) was named the 2006 recipient of the American Accounting Association’s Oustanding Educator Award. Larry is the J. Mack Robinson College of Business Distinguished Professor of Accountancy. . . . Bernice Weiss Skirboll (MS), founder of the mental health agency Compeer, is the author of a book of the same name, published by the University of Rochester Press.

Barbara Williams (MA) is deputy general counsel and ethics counsel at the law firm McGuireWoods.

Charles Avallone S (MBA) and Terri Gumina were married on July 9, 2005, in Brighton, N.Y. They live in Brighton. . . . Francis Vella (PhD) is the first Edmond V. Villani Chair in Economics at Georgetown University.

John McNeill (MS) writes, “I had the good fortune to receive the Best Paper Award at the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineer’s biggest international conference earlier this year.” John coauthored the paper with Michael Coln and Brian Larivee. John is an associate professor of electrical and computer engineering at Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Massachusetts. . . . Dana Mehnert S (MBA) was named president of the RF Communications division of Harris Corp. in Rochester. . . . Our apologies to Martin Mucci S (MBA). In the summer issue of Review, he was listed incorrectly as chairman of the board at Paychex. He was elected chair of the Rochester Business Alliance’s board of directors. Marty is senior vice president of operations at Paychex. . . . Tim Swanson (MA) was named to Allegiant Funds’ board of trustees. Tim is an executive vice president and CIO of investment company National City’s private client group.

Maureen Rutecki S (MBA), senior valuation analyst with Rochester accounting firm EFP Group, was named senior appraiser by the American Society of Appraisers. . . . Katrina Bruchak Zalatan S (MBA), an associate professor of business administration at Hartwick College in Oneonta, N.Y., received a fellowship from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. Katrina will assist in the college’s strategic planning process.

Mark Dennes S (MBA) and Meridith Fiedler were married on May 13 in New York City. Mark is a vice president for merchant banking at Fortis Bank, and Meridith is a vice president of the Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corp.

Victor Manuel S (MBA) is a vice president at Atlantic-Pacific Capital in Greenwich, Conn. . . . Deniz Tunca S (MBA) writes, “My wife, Ipek Oktem Tunca S (MBA), and I announce the birth of our first child, a boy, Kaya Deniz, on April 15. We live in San Francisco and are actively involved in leading the Simon Alumni Association of the Bay Area as a regional network.”

Laura is a doctoral candidate in communcations at Columbia University. . . . Matthew Disney (PhD) is an assistant professor of chemistry at the University at Buffalo.
