Matthew Shackles ’05 was honored for heroism by the Carnegie Hero Fund Commission, a Pittsburgh-based organization that recognizes “those who risk their lives to an extraordinary degree while saving or attempting to save the lives of others.” Shackles and an off-duty police officer saved a Coram, New York, woman from a burning car in 2006.
