Yesteryear Yellowjacket

after words photo

Campus legend says the University’s athletics teams were nicknamed the Yellowjackets in the mid-1920s. Since then, the mascot has been portrayed in a range of styles from the cuddly to the club-wielding. In this detail from an undated banner on display in the Alumni and Advancement Center, a past incarnation of the Yellowjacket takes its place in that tradition. This winter, the University unveiled Rocky, the most recent makeover for the mascot (see page 15).
