Nielsen ’08S (MBA) Named Tennis Coach

Matt Nielsen ’08S (MBA), a four-year starter on Penn State’s tennis team who has served as an assistant coach at Rochester for the past five years, has been named the head men’s and women’s tennis coach at the University.

A Rochester-area native, Nielsen was a nationally recognized junior player before playing for Penn State, where he received the Academic All-Big Ten Award, the Student-Athlete Academic Achievement Award, and the Penn State Tennis Senior Achievement Leadership Award.

He joined Rochester’s coaching staff in 2003.

“Matt has been a key member of our coaching staff over the past five years,” says George VanderZwaag, director of athletics and recreation at Rochester. “He has a deep understanding of our program and I am sure he will be a great addition to our head coaching ranks.”

Nielsen succeeds Anna Khvalina, who coached both teams from 2003 to 2008.
