River Campus Undergraduate 1960s

1960

Eugene Nicandri writes that he was nominated by New York Gov. David Patterson in June, and confirmed by the New York State Senate in August, for a five-year term as a trustee of the New York Power Authority.

1962

Our apologies to Patricia Cullen VanKouwenberg, whom we mistakenly listed in the November-December 2008 issue as having a master’s degree from the School of Nursing. She earned her master’s from the Warner Graduate School of Education in 1969.

1965

Peter Charles Hoffer has published The Historians’ Paradox: The Study of History in Our Time (New York University Press). He is a Distinguished Research Professor of History at the University of Georgia and has authored or coauthored more than 20 books.

1966

Karen Alkalay-Gut ’75 (PhD) has published Alone in the Dawn (University of Georgia Press), the first full-length study of the life and work of Adelaide Crapsey, an inventive and tragic American poet who worked outside of the mainstream of her more well-known 20th-century counterparts. Karen, a professor in the English department at Tel Aviv University, has written more than 20 books of poetry.

1967

Ian Holzman writes that he was awarded the first Dean’s Award for Excellence in Clinical Medicine at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City. He is professor of pediatrics, obstetrics, gynecology, and reproductive sciences, as well as chief of newborn medicine, the vice chair for clinical affairs and chair of the Institutional Ethics Committee at Mount Sinai. . . . Judy Kerman has earned the Earl L. Warrick Award for Excellence in Research for 2008 from Saginaw Valley State University, where she is an English professor. The award is given annually to a faculty member who has made a significant or longstanding contribution to a recognized field of scholarship or artistic endeavor. Judy has done so as a poet, artist, musician, and owner of a small poetry press. . . . V. Bruce Chambers (see ’00). . . . Gail Suhre Chambers (see ’00).

1969

Jeffrey Livingston has joined the international law firm King & Spalding’s business litigation group as counsel. His New York City practice will focus on securities litigation, corporate governance, and white collar defense.
