Our daughter, Amy, is a junior in high school and working on her Girl Scout Gold Award, and Elizabeth recently received the VF 100 Award for the third consecutive year. The Garbers have stayed in touch with Juliet and invited her to sing at their church picnic. Mary writes, “Juliet held our attention and entertained us with every verse and every note. Michael (Spike) Dixon ’04 joined Juliet on the saxophone for several songs. It was a wonderful evening and for us another great U of R connection.” . . . Michael Henry writes that he has published a book of poems titled No Stranger Than My Own (Ghost Road Press), adding, “I first began scribbling poems while in a workshop with Jarold Ramsey [now a professor emeritus of English]. That same semester I was mesmerized every Tuesday and Thursday morning by a young, brilliant teacher named James Longenbach [the Joseph H. Gilmore Professor of English] in my American Modern lit class. Both he and Professor Ramsey still serve as profound inspirations. I vividly remember sitting at my desk in Gilbert Hall, gazing out the window, and scribbling excessively tortured lines into a cheap corduroy-covered journal.” Michael serves as executive director of Lighthouse Writers Workshop, an independent creative writing school in downtown Denver, which recently received the Denver Mayor’s Award for Excellence in the Arts. . . .
