Campus connections Orchestra Marries Music and Medicine
photo of orchestra DEBUT: Stephen Lurie, an assistant professor in the Department of Family Medicine (left), David Harman, conductor of the University’s Symphony Orchestra and Chamber Orchestra, and Robert DiLutis, an assistant principal clarinet with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra and an instructor at the Eastman School, pause before a rehearsal of the Music on My Mind Chamber Orchestra. The 30-member ensemble, which had its debut performance last fall at the Medical Center, was founded and organized by Lurie, whose efforts were in part inspired by a similarly named concert series founded in 2006 by Webster Pilcher, the Frank P. Smith Professor and chair of neurosurgery, as part of an effort to celebrate the connections between music and medicine at the Medical Center.—Germaine Reinhardt
