SINGING SUCCESS: Singer Ben Folds (left) prepares to record with members of the College a cappella group Midnight Ramblers during a River Campus visit this fall. Folds selected the Ramblers from more than 200 groups that auditioned to perform one of 18 tracks on a CD of a cappella groups he is producing. The Ramblers sang the song “Army,” from the 1999 Ben Folds Five album The Unauthorized Biography of Reinhold Messner.
In a different recording project, the Ramblers established a $5,000 scholarship for an incoming College freshman with proceeds from the group’s own 10th anniversary CD released last year. Ramblers alumni provided for the CD’s production, and the resulting scholarship is the first at the University funded through a student-alumni partnership.
