Len Champion sends a photo and an update. Risë Zywotow Birnbaum, the founder and chief executive officer of the national broadcast marketing and public relations firm, zcomm, received the Brava! Award in July from the Baltimore and Washington, D.C., regional business magazine, SmartCEO. The award recognizes women in the Baltimore and Washington, D.C., area who serve as leaders and role models in growing businesses. . . . Bernadette Brinkman is the director of the Penfield Public Library, outside Rochester. . . . Sheldon Pollack, the director of the legal studies program at the University of Delaware, has published his third book, War, Revenue, and State Building: Financing the Development of the American State (Cornell). . . . 1976

John Betz has been named a fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers in recognition for his work on signal design and radio frequency compatibility of global positioning and navigation satellite systems. John also became the chair of the U.S. Air Force Scientific Advisory Board in the fall of 2008, and is a fellow of the Mitre Corp., where he won the Mitre Trustees’ Award for outstanding technical leadership, also in 2008. He and his wife, Donna Kleppe Betz ’76N, have four children and live in Bedford, Mass. . . . Zach Kleiman writes that he has become a twice-monthly columnist on SoulPancake, a Web site created by actor Rainn Wilson that’s devoted to discussions about spirituality, creativity, and philosophy. He also contributes to and maintains Tennis Diary, a blog of “anything and everything about life, tennis, and sports.” . . . Quintin Call (see ’73).

1977

Heidi Siegelbaum DeWyngaert has been elected president of the Bank of New Canaan in Connecticut. Heidi has spent more than 30 years in commercial banking and has been head of the lending division at the bank for the past five years.

1978

Jane Dubin ’79 (MS) writes that she won a 2009 Tony Award for Best Play Revival for her role as a producer of The Norman Conquests. Her theater production company, Double Play Connections, also helped produce Groundswell this spring on Theatre Row in New York City, and is part of the team presenting The 39 Steps National Tour. 1979

Sandy Bebak Ketterer writes that she and her husband, Tom, gathered with John and Jean Merenda Conway and Carl and Sue White Villarinis ’80N at the Conways’ new home in San Luis Obispo, Calif., to celebrate the 30th class reunion. John and Jean relocated after John accepted the position of senior vice president and chief nuclear officer for Pacific Gas & Electric. Jean is the director of admissions at the Mission College Preparatory School in San Luis Obispo. Tom and Sue live in Arizona, where Tom is an ear, nose, and throat specialist and Sandy has her own family medical practice. Sue is a family nurse practitioner at Gateway Medical Associates in West Chester, Pa., and Carl is a program analyst for the Philadelphia Mental Health Care Corp. Sandy adds: “We had a great time remembering all the good times at Alpha Delta Phi and UR soccer.”
