SPORTSSquash, Women’s Swimming Claim League Titles

Highlights from the fall 2010 seasons:

Men’s Soccer: The Yellowjackets earned their sixth straight trip to the NCAA tournament, finishing the season at 10–3–5 overall. Misha Carrel-Thomas ’11 and Steve Welles ’11 earned first-team all–UAA accolades.

Women’s Soccer: Rochester advanced to the second round of the NCAA tournament before completing the season with a 12–5–3 mark. Striker Ellen Coleman ’12 repeated as a second team All-American.

Football: Rochester won its last four games to finish 4–5 overall. The streak included a road upset of nationally ranked Alfred. Rochester also beat Hobart, 35–34, in double overtime to win the Centennial Cup, the trophy awarded for the annual game between the two schools.

Field Hockey: Forward Allison Beardsley ’12 scored 32 points on the season to earn second-team all-region honors and lead the Yellowjackets to a mark of 10–9.

Men’s Cross Country: James Vavra ’12 became the first Rochester All-American in 14 years by placing 28th at the NCAA championships, where the Yellowjackets placed 17th as a team.

Women’s Cross Country: Hillary Snyder ’12 earned a trip to the NCAA championships, finishing 12th at regionals and 17th at UAAs.

Rowing: Rochester’s Varsity 8 took fourth at the Head of the Genesee Regatta and fifth at the Head of the Trent, while the Varsity 4 earned a gold medal at the Frostbite Regatta.

Squash: Rochester closed the first semester schedule with a 9–0 win over fifth-ranked Harvard at the Peter Lyman Courts. In November, the Yellowjackets won their fourth straight Liberty League championship with victories over St. Lawrence, Hobart, and Vassar.

Golf: Nicholas Palladino ’14 won the ECAC and Liberty League individual titles and garnered league Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year accolades.

Men’s Tennis: Rochester took third as a team at the Flower City Tournament.

Women’s Tennis: Jamie Bow ’12 came up big at the New York State championships, winning a singles crown and teaming with Lia Weiner ’11 for the doubles title.

Volleyball: The Yellowjackets placed eighth at UAAs, and outside hitter Kelly Mulrey ’13 earned honorable mention all–UAA honors.

Men’s Swimming & Diving: Sam Wilshire ’14 produced a solid rookie season, picking up Liberty League Swimmer of the Week accolades.

Women’s Swimming & Diving: Rochester won its second straight Liberty League championship. Megan Braun ’13 earned Liberty League Diver of the Week and UAA Athlete of the Week honors after leading Rochester to a win over Union.
