Heralding Hanson: Several events marked the 80th anniversary of Howard Hanson’s opera Merry Mount, which had its debut at the Metropolitan Opera in 1934 (shown here). The only opera composed by the longtime director of the Eastman School of Music, Merry Mount was performed at Kodak Hall this spring by the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, which then took the performance to Carnegie Hall in early May.
