1953 Paul Coleman (PhD) writes that he’s moved his laboratory from Banner Research Institute to the University of Arizona, where he has accepted a faculty appointment in the Institute for Neurodegenerative Diseases. Paul’s work focuses on epigenetic molecular mechanisms in Alzheimer’s disease.

1977 David Amaral (PhD) has been appointed by U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Sylvia Burwell to the Interagency Autism Coordinating Committee. The committee “advises the secretary on approaches to advance research, strengthen services, and increase opportunities” for people on the autism spectrum. David is chair of the Beneto Foundation as well as director of research at the University of California, Davis, Medical Investigation of Neurodevelopmental Disorders, or MIND, Institute.

1996 Jim Cain (PhD) has published a book, 50 Amazing Team Activities (Teamwork & Teamplay Publishing).

1999 Paul Scott Carney (PhD) has been named editor-in-chief of the Journal of the Optical Society of America. He’s an associate professor of electrical and computer engineering and director of the Optical Science Group at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

2003 Gonzalo Guirado López (Flw) writes that he and Elisabeth welcomed their first daughter, Mireia, in May 2015. They live near Barcelona, Spain, where Gonzalo is an associate professor of chemistry at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. “We couldn’t have asked for a better present than Mireia, and we hope that someday she will join the U of R!” Gonzalo writes.
