1987 Sarah Whitman (MD) and her daughter, Lauren, have started a nature photography note card project, “50 Percent Cards,” on Etsy. Sarah has been making cards featuring her own photography for many years, but only began selling on Etsy when her daughter suggested the idea of a business that also serves as a charity fundraiser. Sarah writes: “The name ‘50 Percent Cards’ was chosen because 50 percent of all profits are donated to environmental charities, and 50 percent goes to Lauren for tuition at Syracuse University’s Newhouse School of Public Communications.” Sarah and Lauren were featured in their local suburban Philadelphia paper, The Chestnut Hill Local, last December.

The National Academy of Inventors is a nonprofit organization in Tampa, Florida, designed to recognize and promote invention in academic research settings.
