Chief Data Officer Search

A national search is under way for the vice provost for data governance and chief data officer at the University of Rochester. The search committee is chaired by Thomas Barnett, chief information officer of the University of Rochester Medical Center.

Reporting to the provost and working with the IT Executive Committee, the chief data officer (CDO) is responsible for the University’s enterprise-wide data strategy, governance, control, policy development, and effective use. In collaboration with information technology leaders, data stewards, the chief privacy officer, the chief security officer, and the chief compliance officer, the CDO will devise and implement policies and practices for:

  • Information protection and privacy
  • Information governance
  • Data quality and data life cycle management
  • The use of data assets to create value

The position has primary responsibility for ensuring that Rochester has the right data usable in the right ways to fulfill its mission.
