Coming Soon: 3rd Annual Shred Fest

University Facilities and Services is holding its third annual Shred Fest on Friday, July 26th from 7:00 am to 4:30 pm in Park Lot. All University staff and faculty are welcome to drive over and drop off any unwanted personal documents from home to be recycled in a secure and confidential manner. Old files, folders, notebooks, newspapers, bills, and magazines will be securely shredded and saved from the landfill. Last year’s paper document collection had a total estimated weight of 15,750 pounds, which is over seven tons.

Shred FestThese days, identity theft is a huge concern. Good thing University Facilities partners with Iron Mountain, a storage and information management company specializing in records management and information destruction. Paper documents received at the event will be placed into a locked container and then sent up a chute into the truck to be securely shredded. All shredding will take place onsite in the Iron Mountain Mobile Shred Truck. A camera inside the truck allows concerned document owners to monitor the shredding of their documents, and ensure that their personal information is protected. The shred truck will be onsite beginning at 11:00 a.m., and until that time documents will be placed into locked containers. Often concerns over identity theft and other mismanagement of sensitive information have people throwing out papers into the trash, but by participating in this event, you’re protecting both your identity and the environment!

Like E-Cycle Day and past Shred Fests, the event will take place in Park Lot and will be manned by an armada of volunteers. To get to Park Lot by car from the Medical Center: (1) Head south on Elmwood Ave. and take a right onto Wilson Blvd. to enter the River Campus (2) Take your first right (before the information booth) onto Trustee Road (3) Take another right onto Intercampus Drive (4) Drive across the bridge over Elmwood Ave (5) Park Lot will be to the right. Signs will be posted to help direct you.
