The Kauffman Entrepreneurial Year (KEY) Program offers selected students a fifth, tuition-free, year of college to pursue entrepreneurial endeavors. Up to a full academic year can be devoted to internships, special projects, business plan development, entrepreneurship research or analysis of how culture and public policy influence entrepreneurial activity related to sustainability. The Take Five Scholars Program, unique to the University of Rochester, provides an additional semester or year, tuition-free, offering the chance to pursue a demanding major of one’s own design. Students with degrees in fields ranging from engineering to visual arts have used this year to deepen their understanding of sustainability issues either generally or as they relate to specific career fields.
