Nsedu Obot Witherspoon is the Executive Director of the Children's Environmental Health Network (CEHN), a national multi-disciplinary organization whose mission is to protect children from environmental health hazards. CEHN is dedicated to addressing health disparities among our most vulnerable populations.  In October 2014, CEHN convened a Wingspread Conference to create a renewed blueprint for protecting children's environmental health through research, education, and policy change.

Ms. Witherspoon’s talk will describe CEHN’s efforts to implement this vision through changes in local, state, and federal policies and the contributions of scientists, public health and health care professionals, community leaders, and policy makers.  Ms. Witherspoon has held leadership positions on a number of national boards including the USEPA’s Children’s Health Protection Advisory Committee, the American Public Health Association, the National Institute for Environmental Health Sciences, and, currently, the Institute of Medicine.  She was the 2014 recipient of the William R. Reilly Award in Environmental Leadership, from the Center for Environmental Policy at American University. This talk is free and open to the public.  Contact Valerie_Garrison@urmc.rochester.edu with any questions.
