What DID Make the Best Translated Book Award longlist?

Over the past few weeks, I’ve dropped a couple of clues as to what did make the BTBA longlist, which will be announced tomorrow morning at 10am, but nothing all that specific. I told you that two of the finalists for the French-American Translation Prize made it; I mentioned that three of the IFFP longlist are also on our list; I eliminated five titles (The Obscent Madame D, The Canvas, Pow!, Necropolis, and Almost Never); and I gave you this photo.

With all that in hand, you should rampantly speculate in the comments below, or on Twitter (@chadwpost, @open_letter), or at our Facebook page.

And to give you a bit more ammunition for your speculation, here are a few facts about this year’s Best Translated Book Award Fiction Longlist:

• Fifteen different presses are represented on this year’s list, including one that has four books on the list, and two that have three titles each;

• There are books from nineteen different countries, including three titles from Asian countries, six from Eastern Europe, and two from the Middle East. Surprisingly (?) there are only three titles from Latin America on the list;

• Books from thirteen different languages comprise the list, including six translated from French;

• Only four women writers made the list this year.
