Hospital Helps Children Cope with Surgery

The prospect of surgery can frighten even the bravest of children. At Golisano Children’s Hospital at Strong, the exceptional care given to the nearly 6,600 children who undergo surgery there each year now extends to their pre- and post-operative experience.

Instead of sharing the same waiting room with adult surgery patients, young patients now enjoy the hospital’s new family-friendly surgical suite which opened last July. The cheerfully painted $2.2 million William and Mildred Levine Pediatric Surgical Suite is outfitted with video players and video games in the pre-operative area, which has more room for family members. Parents can stay with their children up until just moments before surgery and see them sooner afterward.
