University Library Acquires Publisher’s Archive

University faculty and students have a unique research opportunity in the Rare Books and Special Collections Library, with the acquisition of the BOA Editions archive.

The 30-year-old, Pultizer Prize–winning, not-for-profit publishing house has produced more than 170 books of American poetry and poetry in translation. Rochester will archive books published between 1996 and 2005; BOA’s books published between 1976 and 1995 are at Yale University.

The archive is a wealth of materials ideal for research: manuscripts, annotated manuscripts with authors’ corrections and correspondence, and publishing ephemera—galleys, original cover art, photographs, and sales catalogs—of works by such noted poets as Lucille Clifton, W. D. Snodgrass, Hyam Plutzik, David Ignatow, and others. Plutzik and Ignatow, as well as William Heyen and Anthony Piccione, who are also represented in the BOA collection, all have their papers in the University’s Rare Books and Special Collections Library.
