Tax Compliance and Planning

The Tax Department is responsible for tax compliance and planning for the University and certain related entities. The tax department contributes to the development and update of tax policies and procedures and works closely with the university community by educating and informing them as to the tax aspects of their current and future transactions.  In meeting these objectives, we assist in protecting the tax-exempt status of the University.

Major responsibilities of the Tax Department include:

  • Manage Federal and state tax compliance, including filing of Federal and state income and information returns in an accurate and timely manner, for the University and certain related entities;
  • Act as a resource to the University community for tax issues and advise on University policy and procedure development with respect to tax issues;
  • Direct research and strategic planning efforts related to tax issues;
  • Oversee and negotiate Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and state tax audits; and
  • Monitor developments in Federal and state tax laws and regulations, etc. and their impact on the University.
  • Guidance regarding transactions with International Individuals and Entities
  • Sales and use tax matters
  • Other Federal and State tax compliance matters

The tax department also coordinates compliance with the University’s tax exempt bond policies. The policies and procedures which the University has adopted, by approval from the Treasurer, are available at the link below:
